GB1HS 1st Hainault Scouts JOTA Weekend 15/16 October 2011

Some photos from The 1st Hainault Scouts campsite close to the A12 at Little Heath, nr Romford.  GB1HS is operated by the Loughton & District ARS and assisting Lee 2E0GSL and Jason 2E0EER, 1st Hainault Scouts leaders,  as part of the 54th JOTA weekend (more details here) and located at the Hargreaves Scout Campsite. With an HF Station (SSB) outside under canvas, and separate 2 metre FM station in the main building, quite a few JOTA stations were worked and exchange messages and greetings sent to other scouts from the 1st Hainault group (and other local scout packs).

Other radio-related activities provided by LEFARS included the opportunity to build your own crystal set and make a lemon battery. At least 50-60 were made! This was overseen by John G0VEH.  And to send your name in morse.

Derek M0XDC brought along his ‘Hunter’ SDR receiver and some fun was had in decoding data signals. There was a bit of competition from the main GB1HS station,100w ERP, and sitting under the doublet didn’t help. PSK31 worked better than SSTV in the prevailing conditions.
